Multi-pass Beam-breakup: Theory and Calculation

چکیده
ERL 04-7 Prodeedings EPAC04, Lucerne/CH (2004) Multi-pass, multi-bunch beam-breakup has been long known to be a potential limiting factor for the current in linac-based recirculating accelerators. New understanding of theoretical and computational aspects of the phenomenon are presented here. We also describe a detailed simulation study of BBU in the proposed GeV Energy Recovery Linac light source at Cornell University.

Beam Current Limitations in the Jefferson Lab Fel: Simulations and Analysis of Proposed Beam Breakup Experiments
A series of beam experiments is being planned in the Jefferson Lab FEL driver accelerator in order to study multi-pass beam breakup instabilities in the machine and to test the predictions of the numerical code TDBBU. The tests are extensions of previously performed or proposed experiments, and will be considerably more sensitive with the present configuration. The experiments will include: a) ...
متن کاملA Project Scheduling Method Based on Fuzzy Theory
In this paper a new method based on fuzzy theory is developed to solve the project scheduling problem under fuzzy environment. Assuming that the duration of activities are trapezoidal fuzzy numbers (TFN), in this method we compute several project characteristics such as earliest times, latest times, and, slack times in term of TFN. In this method, we introduce a new approach which we call modif...
متن کاملExperimental investigation of multibunch, multipass beam breakup in the Jefferson Laboratory Free Electron Laser Upgrade Driver
In recirculating accelerators, and, in particular, energy-recovery linacs, the maximum current can be limited by multipass, multibunch beam breakup (BBU), which occurs when the electron beam interacts with the higher-order modes (HOMs) of an accelerating cavity on the accelerating pass and again on the energy recovering pass. This effect is of particular concern in the design of modern high ave...
متن کاملTheory and Suppression of Multibunch Beam Breakup in Linear Colliders
An analytic theory of cumulative multibunch beam breakup in linear colliders is developed. Included is a linear variation of transverse focusing across the bunch train as might be applied, e.g., by chirping the radiofrequency power sources or by using radiofrequency quadrupole magnets. The focusing variation saturates the exponential growth of the beam breakup and establishes an algebraic decay...
متن کاملEffect of Energy Spread in the Beam Train on Beam Breakup Instability
It is shown herein that the energy spread of order one percent in the beam train in the NLC can suppress the emittance growth due to structure misalignments and initial jitter E ect of Energy Spread in the Beam Train on Beam Breakup Instability G. V. Stupakov September 20, 1999
